Almost was first released on OMD's debut single Electricity in May 1979. The version featured here is the original unreleased version and is unique to this release.

I Betray My Friends originally appeared on the single Red Frame/White Light.

Waiting For The Man was originally performed by The Velvet Underground and appears on their debut album The Velvet Underground And Nico. OMD's version of the song is taken from the 10" release of the single Messages.

Annex was a throwback to Andy and Paul's musical experiments outside of The Id when they first started writing songs together. The song first appeared on the single Enola Gay.

Sacred Heart featured on the single Souvenir.

The Romance Of The Telescope was the B-Side to Joan Of Arc and takes its title from a chapter heading in an astronomy book. The version featured on this album is the original vinyl version.

Navigation featured on the single Maid Of Orleans.

4-Neu is a tribute to 70's German band Neu! - a band, like Kraftwerk, that were a big influence on Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys prior to OMD.

66 And Fading originally appeared as the B-side on Telegraph. The version featured here is edited down from the original 6 minute version.

Gravity Never Failed featured on 12" releases of the 1988 single Dreaming, but originally dated from the 1981 Architecture And Morality sessions. The song had been titled Georgia and was even briefly considered as a possible single. However, the track lost favour with the band during the recording sessions. It was subsequently shelved and the title Georgia given to a new song.

Her Body In My Soul featured on the single Locomotion.

The Avenue featured on 12" releases of Locomotion. The track was the first song to come out of the Montserrat Junk Culture sessions.

Garden City originally featured on 12" releases of Tesla Girls.

Concrete Hands featured on the single So In Love. The song refers back to when Andy first met his girlfriend. While on tour he sent her regular postcards which she kept. Andy subsequently used the lines written on the cards to compose the lyrics of the song.

Firegun was purely an image Andy dreamt up while the lyrics detail the over the top things that happen within a family. Firegun was written, recorded and mixed in one day while in New York. The track first appeared on the single La Femme Accident.

This Town originally featured on the single (Forever) Live And Die.

Sugar Tax was originally scheduled to be the title track for the album of the same name. Andy had been working on the track during the same week that he had been working on the track Pandora's Box. Realising that Pandora's Box was potentially a single, he concentrated solely on that track. This meant that Sugar Tax was incomplete at the time of the album's release. Sugar Tax was subsequently released on the first CD release of the single Sailing In The Seven Seas. It also appeared as the B-side to the single Then You Turn Away.

(The Angels Keep Turning) The Wheels Of The Universe was originally issued as a 1-sided 7" single with initial copies of the album Junk Culture.

The CD booklet features recording details for each track and sleeve notes. There are also details on OMD's CD back catalogue.

One of the original plans for this album was to include previously unreleased material - an idea that was shelved when the concept of a complete album of unreleased material for later release was planned.

The track listing for this album went through various changes. Burning and The Romance Of The Telescope were late additions while Vox Humana was subsequently dropped.
