Moving away from a period of producing songs for other artists, Ian Broudie embarked on a new solo project titled The Lightning Seeds. Joy followed on from The Lightning Seeds debut release Pure which had managed to reach No. 16 in the UK charts. Sadly, Joy fared less well.
Ian Broudie had pulled in help from a number of fellow Liverpool musicians during this period and this included Andy McCluskey who contributed keyboards to the instrumental B-Side Frenzy.
Frenzy also appeared on US releases of The Lightning Seeds debut album Cloudcuckooland (MCAD6404).
