OneTwo is a collaborative project between Paul Humphreys and Claudia Brücken. Paul had also worked with Claudia on material for a planned Propaganda album, but when the proposed Propaganda reunion fell through the pair concentrated on working on their own songs.
Item was OneTwo's debut release and had been issued via Übersonik - a special label operating under the online auction company eBay.
Sister is probably the oldest song on this CD as the idea for the track was being considered by Paul back when The Listening Pool were active in the early 1990's. The song is dedicated to Sue Humphreys, Paul's sister, who tragically died following complications from an asthma attack as a child. In the sleeve notes, Paul states: "There are 150 million asthma sufferers in the world and the number is increasing at an alarming rate. 180,000 people die every year from asthma and related illnesses, that is a staggering one person dying every three minutes. Claudia and I will be donating some of the profits from Sister to Asthma Research" while also adding a link to a relevant web address: www.asthma.org.uk
Cloud 9 is sung by Claudia and was co-written by Claudia and Martin Gore and also features Martin on guitar. Cloud 9 had originally been written for Claudia's planned solo album back in the 1990's. It was subsequently 'leant' to Propaganda for their planned new album which was shelved.
Element Of Truth is also sung by Claudia and features a violin solo by Andrea Fisher. One And Only (Sister) is a shorter, different version of Sister.
Other collaborators who worked on the release included Bob Kraushaar who mixed Sister and Cloud 9. He had previously worked with Claudia on material for Propaganda and had also worked as a technician for Pet Shop Boys.
This CD was also the first release for Paul and Claudia's new record label There(there).
For the second print run the sleeve design was subtly altered and is titled "Colour Variant 5". A third sleeve change has also been considered for the future. |
