Andy and Paul had originally written a song called Suspicion in July 1987. When Andy couldn't make it to the studio for a few days, Paul added some lyrics finishing the song off. Determined the song was a potential single, the pair wrote a B side.

However, after recording the B side (now called Dreaming), Andy and Paul thought it was actually better than Suspicion. Virgin Records agreed and Dreaming was used as the A side. Suspicion remains unreleased.

This release was a limited numbered edition.

Some copies featured a stickered sleeve stating "OMD Special Limited Edition 10""

The back of the sleeve features an ad for The Best Of OMD.

Dreaming was the last song the band wrote using the Fairlight CMI.
