This was a reissue on a format designed to replace the 7" single. The 3" CD never took off, but it's failure meant that releases such as Maid Of Orleans became very rare.

Maid Of Orleans was actually written before Joan Of Arc, but the waltz-style of the song was something that the band felt didn't work too well and it was shelved. A new song was written about Joan Of Arc, but during the Manor sessions the original version was dusted down and the band decided that this version had some merit after all.

Maid of Orleans had originally been written on 30th May 1981 - the 550th anniversary of Joan of Arc's death.

The sleeveÉ was inspired by a stained glass design by Anton Wolff.
