Wow, now you have all the tile set, you really get to see how well you capture the Dazzle ship cover. Can't wait to see it all finished.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments :D . So far, I'm really happy with how it's turned out. There are a couple of things I would do differently if I could... I would make sure the aqua tiles were a little more green. The sample color I had was a little different than what actually came. I would differentiate the planes within the colors a little more. You see in the dark blue, there a portion where one of the planes looks like it's "sliding". It's the same color, but I built a line in to mark off the plane a bit more. I should have done this in a couple of places, once in the aqua and once more in the blue. But oh well...

As far as beer! OK, you've got me. Down in the workshop I've got 3 empty bottles of beer. That's all. Don't ask me about the empty bottles of tequila, though!! (actually, there are none...just joking :) )

Well...the great grout debate has ended with--CHARCOAL.

I stripped the table and now I'm debating whether to stain the table frame or leave it natural wood color with just a couple of coats of Polyurethane on top. I could stain the wood black, too. I don't want to paint the top but I'm going to paint the legs and apron black (they're currently white). Anyways--here's what I've got today:

I love it quite frankly.
Maybe Sensoria could do her magic to test the wood color. Are you looking to make a certain color pop or keep it more evened out?

Thanks, Summermuse! 8)
Sensoria, you're welcome to manipulate all you wish :D . I think that a black frame might be a little too black. I don't want to do an "unnatural" color (a color not natural to wood) because frequently the stains don't age well. I do have a very nice blue oil based japanese stain that I used on another table and when I first put it on, it was a very lovely indigo color, but 10 years later, it's muted down to a royal blue, and I don't think it would look good with this table, and the frame is oak which doesn't accept stain evenly, so it could look stripey and weird. Yellow? Nah. Orange? not this time...hmmm...just like it was with the grout, I wonder what I'll do!

Why did you choose to keep 2 whole tiles in there instead of breaking them up?
Sensoria can you try a lighter gray stain (like battleship/old picnic table) too?

WOW!! That's awesome! OK that tells me one thing--the cherry brown is OUT! I think the black might be the way to go! I like the white, too, but I like black better. Thanks!!

Practically, it makes it so I don't have to find the "puzzle pieces" for that area. I can fill a large area with one go and it saves a little time. I also like the way it looks, as a kind of memory back to how all the tiles once were. I also think it's a kind of tease for the brain. Our brains try to find regular shapes and lines, and although there's a certain amount of order in the circles and lines, there's a lot of chaos in the broken tiles, and then the eye snags on the square tile and says, "YES!! a regular shape!! but then the regular shape is still caught up in the chaos of the broken tiles. Other than that, there's no special reason.

I just re-read that--how "artsy-fartsy bullsh*t" is that?? What a LOAD! Summermuse, the 1st 2 sentences, that's the real reason. The last bunch is just Bulsh...
