Slacker!!! I thought you might be heading into the 300 range this year. Try harder next year, OK? :D

I think I'm all done with my gigs for the year, and I think I'll be at 16 by the end of the year. Not too bad for me. I have the Maine tonight and I'm going to try and see Brahms Third Racket at the beginning of December, but I don't know if I'll be able to fit that in.
I dance about ships and airplanes.

A new year means a review of the old year. 2017 saw me working full time so my gig-going was a wee bit curtailed

Number of gigs 185, seeing 455 performances

Number of different bands and artists seen 326

Great acts I saw multiple times
BooHooHoo (9)
False Friends (7)
Rachel Sermanni (7) and I have now seen her 52 times in total
L-Space (6)
The Ninth Wave (5)
Skjor (5)
OMD (4)
Medicine Men (4)
My Life Story (4)

Popular venues for gigs (with number of shows seen)
59 bands across 22 gigs at KING TUT'S WAH HUT in GLASGOW
43 bands across 13 gigs at The Hug And Pint in Glasgow
21 bands across 9 gigs at Nice 'N' Sleazy in GLASGOW
21 bands across 8 gigs at ABC in GLASGOW
19 bands across 7 gigs at SNEAKY PETE'S in EDINBURGH
17 bands across 7 gigs at Leith Depot in EDINBURGH
16 bands across 7 gigs at Broadcast in Glasgow
12 bands across 4 gigs at Stereo Café Bar in GLASGOW
10 bands across 4 gigs at Mash House in EDINBURGH
8 bands across 4 gigs at CONCERT HALL in GLASGOW

Geographical split
Glasgow seeing 90 gigs (48.65%)
Edinburgh seeing 38 gigs (20.54%)
Rest of Scotland seeing 27 gigs (14.59%)
Newcastle & Gateshead seeing 8 gigs (4.32%)
London seeing 7 gigs (3.78%)
Rest of England seeing 7 gigs (3.78%)
Rest of the world seeing 8 gigs (4.32%)

I did see OMD four times this year. Indeed, I attended a gig in Reading for the first time since the Reading Festival in 1983! OMD were at their best in Gateshead, second best equal in Glasgow & Reading but the London gig was quite staid and sterile. I wonder if that was because it was being filmed? Still, OMD are superb live right now. Stuart is amazing and the set list for the POL tour was spot on.

And the biggest disappointments
PSB and Barry Adamson

How many bands or artists did I meet afterwards?
86 (grabbing every chance I could to thank them for their gigs)

Some first time ever sees (after knowing about them for some or for many years)
Atomic Kitten Pretty karaoke!
Band Of Skulls An amazing live band with superb songs
Barry Adamson Oh goodness me, he is dull and does jazz rap!
BMX Bandits I did not realise this band do not take themselves seriously
Chris De Burgh A truly great entertainer and the middle aged post menopausal women love him
Dodgy Oh boy they are dull live
Fischer-Z It was quite an achievement to see this band live after so many years. They put on a really good show
Misterwives What a show this band put on. They are so good
Pet Shop Boys What is the fuss about? They are quite dull live. Oh well, lesson learned
Pumarosa A very good live band with great songs who deserve to become huge
PVRIS Another dull live band with a huge following. A big fuss about nothing
Sleeper An okay band, for 90s music
Space Another band who do not take themselves seriously
The Skids They are back and are truly amazing live
The Valves A real blast from the past. Look up "Ain't No Surf In Portobello" for some fun!

Some great new (or newly discovered by me) acts
A Parade, A Festival
Dancing On Tables
David Currie (from the Supernaturals)
Dream Wife
Emily Maguire
Katee Kross
Katie Mac
Lauren Rycroft
Night Riots
Rachel Alice Johnson
Shiver
Stone Ivy
The RPMs

Once again a big thank you to all the great bands, talented artists and the new live acts that continue to play to very few folk in an otherwise chatty crowd. It is worthwhile - keep going
