The Motion And Heart event
that took place last weekend was a great success (the OMD
Rave Hour was particularly well received!) and many fans expressed their
enjoyment of the event at the end of the evening.
Congratulations to Neil Taylor for staging the
fan gathering (on the same weekend as his wedding!) and it was good to see people
such as Pat Fetty from Pat's
World Of OMD make the trip from the US to attend. It was also good to see
some of the OMD Forum regulars attending as well as some OMD fan gathering veterans such
as Colin and Sue Masters, Anthony and Liz Eaton,
Barry Page and of course Stewart
Craner who spun the decks for the OMD disco.
Photographs from the event should be appearing on various websites this week including Neil Taylor's Motion And Heart website.
The event was of course also used as the launch party for Messages
- The OMD Magazine and the response to the magazine was very favourable.
Attendees signing up on the weekend also received special edition Messages introduction
packs which featured an additional signed photo of Andy
McCluskey and a Limited Edition Messages sticker.
Details for ordering Messages subscriptions will
be posted on the OMD Website shortly.
Dave Richards writes with
an update on the Messages tribute album which has
been put in the running for Best Compilation of 2001
for the American Synthpop Awards which are at
www.synthcon.com. Dave adds "It would-be really cool
if people went and voted for the set, if they liked!".
Meanwhile, Jim Shilts writes with an update on
the Unofficial OMD Covers
website with two new additions by two brand new contributors:
A cover version of Electricity by Richard
Poulter (who performed The Romance Of The Telescope
at the Motion & Heart event) and his band The
Centroid. There's also a remix of 2nd Thought
by Mike Pitt.
Visit http://listen.to/omd.covers/
to hear the songs. Jim also adds that more is on the way, including new remixes
by Roger Erickson.
Atomic Kitten postponed a show at London's Drury
Lane venue (where OMD filmed their classic 1981 live video) last Sunday due to excessive demand for tickets. The show has
now been switched to the larger Hammersmith Apollo
for Sunday 7th April.
