Following on from the anniversary of the Hiroshima
bombing in 1945, the Enola Gay is to
be restored and put on display. The Enola
Gay is one of 80 historic aircraft that will be on display
at the National Air and Space Museum's
new facility in Northern Virginia.
The plane will be suspended eight feet off the ground allowing visitors
to walk under the plane's bomb bay doors as well as being able to
look into the cockpit. The display is more than likely to provoke
controversy as the Enola Gay was responsible
for dropping the first atomic bomb killing an estimated 140,000
people.
The plane has been meticulously restored after 300,000 hours of
work and will be on display from December at the Udvar-Hazy
Centre in December at Dulles International
Airport. More info via the National
Air and Space Museum website at www.nasm.si.edu |
