This discography is designed mainly to cover the UK releases of OMD and is a work in progress. The information used in this discography is taken from a planned book which currently has the working title of Archive.
The discography has been divided up into straightforward individual sections as detailed below.
Each entry also features a guide to the current value of the item in question. This is a rough guide only based on mint condition items and should be viewed accordingly.
SINGLESThe Singles section covers OMD's entire UK singles releases complete with sleeve images and notes and trivia on each individual release.
The releases are arranged in chronological order and there's also double entries where there's a significant visual or historical significance.
The entries have been painstakingly revised from earlier versions of the discography and many now feature new images and new information. They also detail particular changes or variations with record sleeves and labels.
ALBUMS
The Albums section covers OMD's entire UK album releases complete with sleeve
images and notes and trivia on each individual release. This includes reissues
of albums and special releases.
The releases are arranged in chronological order and there's also double entries where there's a significant visual or historical significance.
As with the singles, the album entries have been revised from earlier versions and many now feature new images and new information. They also detail particular changes or variations with record sleeves and labels. This is significant for collectors in the case of reissues where only small points of detail mark the difference between various releases.
COLLABORATIONS
Although deliberately concise, this section is designed to explore those musical
projects that OMD members have been involved with outside of OMD.
For clarity, some entries have also been separated into distinctive categories. For instance, The Listening Pool releases are accessible under the Telegraph Records section.
COMPILATIONS
From their early chart successes, OMD have featured on a variety of compilation
albums. This section doesn't attempt to provide a definitive guide to the many
chart compilation albums over the years, but instead focuses on items that have
either a visual or historical interest.
VIDEOS
OMD's video releases are not that extensive and the forthcoming DVD release will
perhaps help to put these releases into context.
BOOKS
OMD have been remarkably neglected when it
comes to biographies. Here you'll read details on both the original unofficial
Mike West biography as well as the 1988 official publication Messages. This section
also includes the various published music books that featured OMD music notation.
LASERDISCS
Escaping the bounds of the UK discography, this section has been added for the
visual interest and sheer rarity of these items.
THE ID
The pre-OMD band The Id emerged as one of the bright hopes of the 70's Liverpool
music scene. This section provides a look at the limited releases of The Id and
details versions of songs that would later become OMD classics.
GODOT
Next to Dalek I Love You, Godot provided a third angle to Liverpool's electronic
music scene. Employing a more baroque electronic sound, Godot also saw the service
of past OMD luminaries Dave Hughes and Martin Cooper.
TELEGRAPH RECORDS/THE LISTENING POOL
Although this section was originally designed to cover purely the releases of
The Listening Pool (the post-OMD band formed by Paul Humphreys, Martin Cooper
and Mal Holmes) it made sense to look at the label the band formed in detail.
It's also the first time the Telegraph Records label has been detailed in this
way and most of the information contained within is the first time it's seen the
light of day.
All of the releases on this label had some input from the Listening Pool members, so following on from the Collaborations section this provides an intriguing look at more of their post-OMD work.
ONETWO
OneTwo showcases the work of Paul Humphreys and Claudia Brücken. After forming
their own label There (there) Records, the pair have made their debut with the
Item EP and have plans for an album to follow in due course.
ATOMIC KITTEN
Andy McCluskey's post-OMD career has seen him move into a writer/producer role
- most notably for the girl-band outfit Atomic Kitten. This section provides a
concise look at the UK releases of this girl-pop trio.
