OMD's line-up has varied during their career. This is a general guide to the OMD line-ups over the years:
|
||
| Who is Paul Humphreys? | ||
Paul continued working with Andy as part of OMD up to the release of The Best Of OMD album in 1988. Paul (alongside Malcolm Holmes and Martin Cooper) left OMD shortly after to pursue a separate musical direction. The first venture was forming a new band - The Listening Pool - and record label - Telegraph Records. The Listening Pool disbanded around 1996 and Paul began working and writing new material with Claudia Bruücken (ex-Propaganda). Paul and Andy have kept in touch and occasionally written new material together - notably two songs used on the 1996 OMD album Universal. Paul Humphreys also toured the USA alongside Claudia Brücken performing OMD songs in 2000. Paul and Claudia have now formed a new band called OneTwo and have released a CD EP entitled Item. An album is planned for the near future. |
||
| Who is Malcolm Holmes? | ||
Malcolm
Holmes had played drums in a few Liverpool bands throughout the 1970's, including
The Id (alongside Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys). Following the forming of
OMD, Malcolm was occasionally drafted in on drums and consequently became full-time
drummer after Andy and Paul realised the limitations of using backing tapes.
Malcolm remained a member of OMD before leaving around 1990 to form The Listening Pool along with Paul Humphreys and Martin Cooper. Following the disbanding of The Listening Pool, Malcolm pursued production work with local bands before forming the internet-based music label Fin Music. More recently, Mal has created the Muzic2Burn label and has been writing and producing with singer Jo Mooney. |

| Who is Martin Cooper? | ||
Later becoming a full-time OMD member, Martin continued performing with the band up until 1981 when he decided to pursue a separate musical project called Godot (alongside fellow ex-OMD member Dave Hughes). Martin later rejoined OMD and stayed with the band before leaving with Paul Humphreys and Mal Holmes to form The Listening Pool. Since The Listening Pool split up, Martin has returned to his first love of painting. A website dedicated to his work is available here: www.martincooper.uk.com |

| Who is Winston? | ||
![]() Winston was actually a Teac reel to reel tape recorder used by OMD to record early material on and was also used for backing tracks at live performances. Winston was owned by OMD's then manager Paul Collister who named Winston after the lead character in George Orwell's novel 1984. Winston was used for OMD's debut live performance on 12th October 1978 at Eric's Club and was last used at a special Farewell To Winston tribute gig again at Eric's Club on 28th December 1979. Winston is still owned by Paul Collister. |
||
| Who is Peter Saville? | ||
Peter Saville was a graphic designer who worked for Factory Records and DinDisc. He was responsible for OMD's early sleeve and stage set design. Saville made his reputation with his design work for Factory, especially for Joy Division and New Order, and he later formed his own design company Peter Saville Associates. He still works as a designer today. |

| Who is Dave Hughes? | ||
Dave Hughes also played live with the Lotus Eaters and was part of Thomas Lang's band before moving into writing music for films. One of his projects was the soundtrack to the film Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. |
||
| Who is Michael Douglas? | ||
As it was, Douglas was only in the band for a few months before Martin decided to rejoin around September 1981. Following his time in OMD, Douglas played keyboards with The Human League before joining China Crisis. His last known location was working as a barman in Australia while still working with his own band. |
||
| Who are the Weir Brothers? | ||
The Weirs initially joined OMD in Belgium where the band were rehearsing for the Junk Culture tour and played with OMD throughout the tour. The brothers became part of OMD's lineup for the follow-up albums Crush and The Pacific Age before going their separate ways when OMD split around 1988. |
