Andy McCluskey has been
rummaging around through more boxes of tapes and OMD paraphernalia. Perhaps the
most interesting material he's uncovered is the original recording session by
The Id at the Open Eye studio in Liverpool. Only
one of three songs recorded was ever released - Julia's
Song, which featured on the Liverpool compilation album Street
To Street. The tapes that Andy has uncovered feature the other two songs
recorded by The Id: Electricity and The
Misunderstanding.
Andy also has the original version of Almost recorded by Paul Collister on Winston and is considering including this previously unheard version on the B-Sides album.
Other tapes are recordings of OMD performing at The Factory in Manchester from 1979 and a gig at Eric's Club in Liverpool from 1978. There's also two of the early demo versions of Telegraph - one dating from June 1982 produced by Richard Manwaring. The demos are very rough (with some odd pitch changes!) and also feature different lyrics.
The Atomic Kitten single Whole Again has gone Silver and is expected to sell 90,000 copies by the end of the week.
As stated yesterday, Atomic Kitten's album Right Now is being reworked. Two tracks - Cradle and Bye Now are getting the remix treatment and are also being viewed as possible singles. The reissue of the album is scheduled for May.

Atomic Kitten look set to retain the coveted No. 1 spot for a third week and Whole Again is also tipped for the No. 1 spot in Ireland this week.
Andy is also planning to accompany the Kittens on a promotional visit to Germany next month. The plan is to drop in on a few radio stations and explore the recent success of Atomic Kitten in the UK. The interesting point is that many of the stations still have a strong pro-OMD attitude and want to talk to Andy about his role in writing for the girls.
Don't read too much into tabloid reports on the Atomic Kitten album Right
Now being withdrawn and totally re-recorded. The album is
in the process of being reworked, but mainly in the area of remixing some tracks,
the possible addition of new songs and a brand new design for the sleeve artwork.
The excellent Turn Me On is also being given the
remix treatment with a view to releasing it as a possible single.

The Kittens were also guests at last weeks NME Awards
Party - an event that also featured U2. Natasha
(getting into the spirit of things) opted to wear a T-shirt declaring "U2
- Just Another Irish Boy Band?".
Andy had also asked the girls to apologise to Bono on his behalf for the Kittens beating the boys to the No. 1 spot. In a nice gesture, Bono bought the girls a bottle of champagne and said he was happy to have at least been beaten by a good song. |

More on Messages - the
OMD tribute album due for release in March by Ninthwave Records. Fans should be
in for a treat as they hear some of their favourite OMD songs interpreted in a
variety of different ways. Stand out tracks include Secret
by Intact, The Beginning And The End by House Of
Wires, Radio Waves by Underpass, Tesla
Girls by Dynamo (just for the intro!), If You Leave
by Dyed Emotions and Messages by White Town
The OMD Website will be shortly posting up brief interviews with some of the
people, artists and bands involved in the recording of the Messages album. More details
to follow.
You might remember that writer Gary Russell had
a Doctor Who novel published last year called Divided Loyalties.
Being an OMD fan, Gary opted to use OMD song titles as chapter headings. Now writer
Martin Day has written a whole book titled after
an OMD song. Doctor Who : Bunker Soldiers is published
by the BBC this coming Monday. Martin adds:
"It's got nothing to do with the OMD song,I'm afraid, but I was desperate for a title, and after Gary Russell used OMD songs for his chapter titles, I thought there was only one way of bettering that...".

More details as soon as we have them.
The new Atomic Kitten single Whole
Again will be battling it out with U2 for
the No. 1 spot in the UK charts on Sunday.
Whole Again (the first release with new member Jenny Frost on board) sold 1,000 more copies than U2's single on its first day of sale on Monday and more copies are being shipped out to record shops to meet the demand. Whole Again has a classic pop-ballad feel to it and the various formats also include tracks such as Holiday and Locomotion.
If you'd like to see Atomic Kitten get to that No. 1 spot then go snap up copies of Whole Again tomorrow!
The girls are also making personal appearances at:
- WH Smith, High Street, Cheltenham. 4pm 1st February
- Virgin Megastore, Brents Cross London. 3pm 3rd February
Anyone trying to reach the Fin Music website recently may be experiencing problems. Mal Holmes is actually doing some behind-the-scenes changes and some technical problems have meant the site being down for a bit. Mal wants to reassure anyone trying to access the site that normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.
