Carol Masters formed when synthesizer junkie Rui Camarinha teamed up with vocalist and frontman Billy Miller.

The name 'Carol Masters' comes from the song by Alpahville, about a Martian, called Carol Masters, stranded on earth and wanting to go home to Mars. Her name is Carol Masters.

The band debuted in 1998 supporting Cosmicity and they released their debut EP in 1999. A follow-up single, Embrace Me, was released in June 2000 and their debut album Universal Greeting Station is due for release this year.

Sum up Carol Masters in three words

E-Pop. You have to count the hyphen!

How did you first discover OMD?

When I was a young one. Got the first album and was hooked. Enola Gay, 2nd Thought, Almost, Motion and Heart, Julia's Song, all great songs.

Why did you choose to cover Secret?

It's Billy's fave OMD song and it's a brilliant one as well.

Paul Humphreys apparently chose your version of Secret as one of his favourite tracks from the album. What sort of impression did that make on you?

A great feeling! OMD have always been a fave. I was very influenced to do what I'm doing because of them. Seen them live since 1984, the Junk Culture Tour was my first live show ever. I remember being in the front row center standing there and singing along to every word. Andy noticed and stuck the microphone in my face during 'Locomotion' and to my horror the entire concert hall heard me sing "They run down the railways. Sail across the seaways". Then I was front row center again on the 1985 Crush Tour, Andy saw me and acknowledged me with a nod and smile. He remembered me!

Do you have any other favourite OMD songs?

Statues. The Moon and The Sun. The entire Architecture & Morality and Dazzle Ships albums. Way to many to list.

What other artists and music are you into?

Alphaville, Suede, Mesh, Stars, Marvin Gaye, Anything Box, Sade. I like lots of different things as does Billy.

What plans have you got for Carol Masters in the future?

Our debut album "Universal Greeting Station" is to be released July on Souvenir Records. We're very excited about the album and hope to play many live shows in support. We also have a remix disc already set in motion to be released later on. Keep on the look out!
