Last weekend saw a gathering of the fans for One Mad Day - an event organised by OMD fans Ian Hayter, Bob McCluskey and Kevin Pretlove. Around 60 OMD fans made it to a hotel in Burnley for a day of OMD events including a quiz, slide show, rare video performances and the return of the OMD tribute band The Messerschmitt Twins.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the appearance of both Paul Humphreys and Malcolm Holmes. Both Paul and Mally stayed to chat to fans and even fielded a Q+A session. As well as chatting about OMD, Paul discussed various aspects of his recent US tour while Mally answered questions on Fin Music.
Paul and Mally also stayed for the performance of The Messerschmitt Twins - a performance that included a radical drum and bass take on Red Frame/White Light alongside such OMD classics as Bunker Soldiers, Georgia and Secret. In fact, Mal was so impressed with the performance that he actually suggested a contact should the band decide to pursue The Messerschmitt Twins as a professional career. Paul Humphreys, clearly enjoying the gig, shouted out for (Forever) Live And Die during the band's performance. Paul was also treated to a tour of Junior Messerschmitt's keyboards (apparently, Paul has even taught his daughter to play Messages!).
The evening disco featured every OMD song you could wish to dance to and was livened up with a few choice Atomic Kitten tracks. The disco finished off with Electricity which featured both Paul and Mally having a boogie to the OMD classic.
Get well soon to organiser Bob McCluskey who was suffering from a rather nasty tooth abscess and was out of action during part of the day.
