The OMD Website is producing a specialOMD
Calendar 2000. The design of the calendar will be a set of full colour
A6 (postcard size) cards. Each card will feature the theme of an OMD album with
a sleeve shot on the front and discography details on the reverse, including track
listings, release dates, notes and trivia.
The calendars will be a strictly limited edition
but we're also planning to make the initial batch a little more special..... More
details, along with samples of the cards, will be posted up soon.
Andy says thanks for all the emails and comments that people have sent in.
Please note though that the OMD Website is primarily an information site. It's
not always possible to provide a personal reply to questions that are sent in.
Where possible we will post up questions (and a reply) in the Q&A section.

Bob McCluskey has been in touch with Mal Holmes.
Mal has been busy with Fin
Music but reports that he's been busy with a new band called Promise.
Apparently, the band supported 911 in Stoke recently, sharing the bill with none
other than..... Atomic Kitten! Mal also reports that
the Weir Brothers are also keeping busy, teaching
music technology in Scotland. Mally meets up with them on a regular basis and
they also perform together, mainly at Mal's local pub. As well as Mal, the
band features Neil and Graham Weir on horns, Nico - bass (Hue&Cry , Proclaimers)
Greg - keyboards, (Van Morrison, Proclaimers), Tudor - Guitar and Stuart - guitars
(China Crisis). "It's a good night"
says Mal"a little out of order maybe - but old habits
die hard ". The FAQ page has been (slightly)
updated. Dave Sewell wrote in and rightly pointed
out an error. We noted there were 7 different versions of Electricity,
but only listed 6! We had, of course, left out the unreleased version recorded
by The Id.
The Compiled team will be hosting an
OMD Chat session tonight at 21.30(GMT). If you've got a query or question
for the authors of the definitive OMD collectors guide, then drop by the OMD
Chat Pagetonight.
Andy Martin writes concerning an OMD cover version:
Did you know a US teen band by the name of
Marigold covered 'If You Leave' a while back? It was featured on an album of 80's
film music covers, performed by 90's youngsters (eeeh, do I feel old now? ;-)
Andy also provides a link where you can sample the song: http://rhino.com/features/75551p.html.
He also adds:
It's an interesting take on an OMD classic,
for sure.
Following on from our snippet onDivided Loyalties
- the OMD themed Dr Who novel which Neil had discovered (and which Sara
had also noted on the OMD Guestbook..;-).......), we received an e-mail from the
author himself, Gary Russell:
Thanks for putting up the mention of my Doctor Who novel on the news page -
someone noticed!

Ben Baker wrote recently about some
interesting graffiti he spotted while in Montserrat (where OMD recorded Junk Culture
back in 1984)
"I stopped at the old Air Studios which is still standing but closed due
to the damage of Hurricane Hugo in 1989. When I was there, I cleared some
volcanic ash (there's been an active volcano since 1997) from some concrete steps
and saw OMD written in the cement, along with other artists names who recorded
there"
A mystery OMD appearance? Kevin Pretlove, taking
time off from his Compiled duties, spotted this item
in a recent issue of Q Magazine:
"IN THE PIPELINE....The Electronic Box (Rhino/Warners), a 4 CD history
of electronic music, provisionally slated for November, but licensing problems
may delay it until next year. It's an ambitious set that attempts to chart the
bleep from its origins in the classic avantgarde (Stockhausen) via exotica gurus
Perrey & Kingsley and '70s rock pioneers Kraftwerk, Neu and David Bowie to
the punk/industrial interface (Throbbing Gristle, OMD)."
Neil wrote in with what has to be the oddest OMD
trivia for a long time:
"Just thought I would let you know about LOADS of OMD references I came
across the other day....I bought a BBC DOCTOR WHO novel called "Divided Loyalties"
- the book is split into four "Rounds" : each "round" is named
after an OMD song, and subsequently each chapter within each 'round'"
Neil goes on to provide the full chapter listing of the book:
ROUND ONE - "MESSAGES"
Chapter 1 : Her Body in My Soul
Chapter 2 : The New Dark Age
Chapter 3 : The Beginning and the End
Chapter 4 : Of All the Things we've Made

Chapter 7 : Pretending to see the Future
Chapter 8 : Garden City

Russell, the book is published by BBC Publishing and the catalogue number
is ISBN 0-563-55578-5. Anyone interested in checking
out some OMD live photos might like to pay a visit
