The Pacific Age took OMD design to the polar opposite of the earlier technical designs of the debut album and Dazzle Ships.

The colourful, primitive art style was produced by Mick Haggerty  - an English artist living in Los Angeles who had also designed sleeves for Simple Minds and The Police. Haggerty had been suggested by OMD's manager who had previously been involved in art direction at A&M.
